It’s no surprise (to me, anyway) that nail art is one of the biggest beauty trend of New York Fashion Week.
Here’s Nail Romance’s pick of the biggest nail trends to try right now.
Matching Tips & Lips
Kate Moss says it’s a no-no to match your lipstick to your nails, but Zac Posen and several designers others disagree. Oxblood lips and tips are a huge trend for Fall 2013. Try Essie Carry On, as seen at Zac Posen, Essie Bordeaux as seen at Wes Gordon or Butter London Las Moss, as seen at Dannijo.
Nude Nails
Keep it chic and simple with a classic nude nail. This trend is so easy to wear, and is perfect if you’re not so great at painting your nails. Try Essie Lady Like, as seen at Caroline Herrera, Essie Sand Tropez as seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim or OPI’s San Tan-tonio as seen at Jason Wu. Also spotted backstage at Dannijo was Butter London Yummy Mummy, one of my fave nude polishes. The nails for Alexander Wang were cread by CND and have a worn, feathered texture.
Matte Nails
Tone it down for fall with a matte finish. Not only does a matte topcoat allow you to play with textures, you can get a totally different finish to your favorite polish. Matte was paired with black at Nonoo, while models wore Black Onyx by OPI with a matte top coat at BCBG.
Combine this matte polish trend with nude nails for an uber-chic finish. Matte nude nails were seen at The Row, Helmut Lang and DKNY.
Reverse Moons
Reverse moons are a simple two step nail art you can take straight from the runway. How stunning is the La Perla manicure featuring nude nails in Butter London Yummy Mummy and a black moon using Union Jack Black. Or try the black and silver reverse moon manicure at Mara Hoffman. Veronica Beard took it one step further with Essie All tied up on the moon, then two coats of Brownie Points and finished on the tip with Berry Hard.
Swirled Nails at Rebecca Minkoff
Inspired by the night sky, the nails at the Rebecca Minkoff presentation also have an oil slick quality to them. Recreate the look by applying each shade in small dots, starting with the darkest shade. Finish the look by swirling the colors together with a thin paintbrush and a layer of top coat. Colors used were Essie As Gold as it Gets, Penny Talk, Go Overboard, Blue Rhapsody and Aruba Blue.
What’s your fave nail trend from NYFW?
I’ve been very fund of both the dark reds (oxblood, bordeaux, wine, etc.) and nude shades for a long time, so I’m obviously more trendy than I knew, haha! I also love the matte black! Inspired by this post I think my next mani will be the matte nude – I can really imagine how sophisticated and chic it will be! 🙂
Ahead of the trend Conni 😉 Matte nude looks gorgeous, you’ll have to try it. It’ll be your new fave for sure x
Maybe it’s the wannabe burlesque star in me, but I still can’t get enough of the half-moon mani, and the one from La Perla is to die for!
That la Perla one is is simple yet so stunning. I love it too x
