Dazzle Dry Polish – Vive Le Violet

Nail Romance - Dazzle Dry polish in Vive le Violet

Dazzle Dry is a vegan, fast-drying polish that dries hard in five minutes. It’s free from formaldehyde, DBP, toluene and camphor and is non yellowing.

After reading about this brand online I’m pleased that Dazzle Dry polish is now available in Australia.

I was sent Vive le Violet to try along with their three piece nail system kit. After preparing my nails with the Nail Prep and Base Coat, I wasn’t that thrilled with the first coat of Vive Le Violet. Application was a little streaky but the second coat was completely opaque. Then came the Top Coat. This really sealed the deal and gave my nails a super shine finish that looked like a gel polish.

This colour drew a lot of attention on my nails and lasted several days without a chip. I can’t wait to try more colours from the range.

You don’t need to have a steady hand for this easy nail art. With so many designs available you can pretend you spent hours painting your nails with these simple transfers.

Valentine’s Day Nail Art Tutorial

Nail Romance Tutorial - How to use nail transfers

Start by painting your nail in your base colour. Allow 15 minutes to dry before applying nail transfers for the best results. My nails are painted in this pink-red ombre manicure.

What you need:

How to use nail transfers:

  1. Cut the transfer to fit your nail.
  2. Use tweezers to place the transfer in water for a few seconds. If it starts to sink you’ve left it too long. You just need to dampen the backing paper.
  3. Place the transfer on your nail and let the backing paper slip away. You can reposition the transfer while it’s still damp. Then press it down to remove any air bubbles or creases.
  4. Repeat for each nail and finish with a top coat to seal the transfer in place.

Shredded Heart Nails – Valentine’s Day Manicure

Nail Romance - Shredded Hearts Valentines Day Mani

This quick and easy heart nail art is perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Using washi tape, a Japanese masking tape that isn’t too sticky, you can cut any shape to create your own nail art.

I know it’s predictable, but these hearts are still cute for Valentine’s Day. Using a shredded or crackle polish keeps them from being too sickly sweet.

Nail Tutorial: Shredded Hearts for Valentine’s Day

Nail Romance - Shredded Hearts Valentines Day Nails Tutorial

  • I’ve started with this pink-red ombre manicure, but pick your favorite shade for your base color. It’s best to let your polish dry for at least 15 minutes before applying the tape.
  • Next take a small piece of washi tape, fold it in half and cut a small heart that fits your nail.
  • Place the washi tape on your nail and press down to ensure a smooth edge.
  • Paint a thin coat of your shredded polish. I used Maybelline Silver Stunner Shredded Topcoat. Only use one thin coat to make the most of the shredded effect. If you paint this polish too thick you won’t see the full effect.
  • Remove the tape before the polish dries to ensure you get a clean edge to your heart.

Nail Romance - Essie ombre red pink manicure

A total first world problem is choosing what colour to paint your nails.

I can never decide so I love a gradient manicure.

Creating an ombre effect across your nails is the easiest way to get the look. I tried it with a mix of blues and purple polishes but this tonal pink-red ombre is a new fave.

I’m wearing a range of essie shades: Sugar Daddy, Cute as a button, e nuf is e nuf, Lollipop & Really Red.

It’s possible for me to create this manicure as essie are now more widely available in Australia! 100 essie shades have been released in Australia and are available from select pharmacies and department stores and online from adorebeauty.com.au.

Essie is also available from Target, Nordstrom and Beauty.com.

I’m not really into Valentine’s Day, though I do love hearts. This heart nail art is quick and easy to do, but won’t be too in your face for Valentine’s Day.

Blue Valentine – how to get the look

I first painted my nails in a mix of blues and purples. I couldn’t decide which color so I used them all in this ombre manicure.

Heart Nail Art

The hearts were inspired by …Love Maegan‘s nail art and I’ve also used the same technique on this simple heart manicure.

Using Hello Darling Dreamboat on the dark nails, and Bloom Emily Green Navy on the light nails, paint an X-shape that falls off the edge of your nails.

Style Secret

I use this nail art a few days into my manicure as it’s a great way to cover up any chips or wear on the edge of your nails. Just paint one heart for a sweet feature nail too.

Do you get into Valentine’s Day or do you play it a little more low key?

I love all these polishes and I’ll show you some fun nail art with this manicure next week. If I had to pick a standout, the Bloom polish, part of the Emily Green collaboration, has incredible depth of color and is a beautiful formula to use. It’s opaque in one coat, though I’m wearing two thin coats of all the colors for this multicolor manicure.

Have you tried any of these shades? Which is your favorite?

3D Glitter Feature Nail – YSL & Hello Darling Glitterbug Unicornicopia

3D Glitter Feature nail - Nail Romance

For those of you who love nail art, but don’t have the time or patience to do all 10 fingers, a feature nail is your style secret.

It’s so quick and easy to do just one nail and it makes your mani really stand out.

3D nails are a huge trend for 2013. Glitterbug is a new product from the darlings at Hello Darling and is a 3D glitter dip for your nails. It’s much easier to use than I was expecting.

How to get the look

  1. First I painted my nails with YSL polish in Fuchsia Cubiste (8) which is a gorgeous pinky red. It’s opaque in one coat and I’m wearing two thin coats.
  2. I paint my ring finger last and dip it into the Hello Darling Glitterbug in Unicornicopia. (Love that name!)
  3. Use the anti-static brush that comes with the Glitterbug to pat down the glitter and tidy up around and under your nail.
  4. Seal with a topcoat. I used Hello Darling Over top coat.

Nail Romance - Hello Darling and BYS blue polish

Feeling the blues so this manicure is just the cure.

I’ve used BYS Magnetic Cobalt on my ring finger as a feature nail. While I love the colour and the polish is great, opaque in one coat, I wasn’t really seeing the magnetic effect.

The other blue is Hello Darling L’ete from their new summer collection. This colour goes on a dream and is the perfect azure blue. Hurry as I think this colour is selling fast. You may have spotted some Art Class decals in the background. More nail art fun coming soon.

I love just featuring one nail in a manicure. Just one nail is quick and easy to do and still have fun with your nails. Maybe that’s why it’s Nail Romance instead of Nails Romance?

Do you love a feature nail? Have you tried magnetic polish?

Loving…Sparkles and hologram polishes

Make Up Store Greta hologram polish_Nail Romance

Hologram nail polishes, or holos, are so much better in real life. I can’t tell you how long I tried to get an accurate photo of this polish.

I’m wearing Greta, a linear hologram polish from The MakeUp Store. I have to confess I didn’t even know The Make Up Store did nail polishes but they have a surprisingly large range. I was looking at their new candy colours but couldn’t go past this silver hologram. I also purchased Aqua Fix, their recommend base coat for holographic polishes.

To see the true holographic effect, you need a smooth nail base. Aqua Fix is a very good base coat, but any ridge filler will have a similar effect so there’s no need to purchase this if you already have one in your collection. I also like Revitanail Ridge Filler or Butter London Nail Foundation for base coats.

Dots & Stripes Nail Art

BioSculpture nail art

Bio Sculpture nail art

When confronted with so many nail art and nail colour options I asked myself, why do I only have 10 nails?! I couldn’t believe the choice available from Bio Sculpture. With over 170 colours in the range I didn’t know where to start.

I had mistakenly assumed that gel polish could only be applied in one colour but I was amazed by the creativity in those tiny test swatches.

The latest summer colours form the Holiday Beach Collection caught my eye, and I couldn’t choose between Coral Cove (132) and Isla del Sol (133) so I picked both. It was the same with dots and stripes. Again, why choose when you can have both! Plus a little heart just for my Nail Romance.
