My Nail Romance with Dressed Up Nails

Tell me a bit about your blog

Hey y’all! I’m Whitney. I’m 27 but inside I’ll probably always be 11. I have lot of enthusiasm for things like nail polish, nail art, talking about nail polish and nail art, reading, 2-hour baths, glitter, unicorns, soft pants, my lady dog, camping, Scrabble, crafting, organization, brunch, and not leaving my house unless absolutely necessary. I think that nail art holds my interest so well because there is just SO MUCH to it. I feel like there is always something new I can do, a new pattern or design or color combination or nail shape or polish collection coming out to squee over. I can see a lot of improvement in my nail art skillz from when I started, which is really fun, but I also feel like there is SO MUCH I can keep improving and learning and doing, which is so cool. I also really love having a blog and all the social-media-y places that allow me to meet other people who are obsessed with this like I am. I think that’s the very best part.

How often do you post?

Depends on the week but anywhere from 1-5+ times… I’d say average is probably 2-3.

Are you left or right handed?

Right handed

What’s your best tip for painting your other hand?

Go sloooooow! This is the tip I give everyone who asks me how to paint with your non-dominant hand. You’d be surprised how well you can do if you just slow way down and paint really carefully. I also like to do simpler variations of designs on my right hand as well.

How often do you paint your nails?

Like my blog posting, it varies week by week – sometimes I paint them once and sometimes I paint them every day. On average I probably paint them 3-4 times a week.

How many polishes in your collection?

I refuse to count but I think I probably have a little over 400 at this point >_<

How do you store your polishes?

I made two wall racks out of foam board that hold about half my polish and I bought a little wire drawer set at IKEA that holds most of the rest. My *super special* and favorite polishes live on a bamboo spice rack on my desk. One day I want them all on wall racks!

Which brand has the best brush?

OPI. I also really like the Revlon Colorstay brushes.

Favorite polish brand?

China Glaze, hands down. I’m such a China Glaze fangirl it’s ridiculous, I think ¼ of my polishes are ChG.

Favorite indie brand?

Right now it’s definitely Shimmer Polish, I just received Cindy’s entire collection in the mail a month or so ago and they are all SO PRETTY.

Favorite color?

My favorite color has been teal/turquoise for a long time, but I have a pretty big love affair with purple on my nails, too.

Favorite color combinations?

Blue and pink is my all-time favorite to use.

What color would you wear on your wedding day?

I’m probably going to wear some kind of awesome nail art on my wedding day. Definitely not going too demure with my nails, they’ve become one of the biggest parts of my appearance at this point!

Best tip for making nail polish last longer?

Keep it closed tightly and if it gets thick and gloopy, use polish thinner to thin it out – NEVER polish remover or acetone!

What’s your favorite nail art trend?

Glitter gradients will always be my truest nail art love. I never get tired of them. I also really like painting geometric patterns and hearts on my nails.
