Meet Cristina of Let them have Polish. She says she’s a “firm believer in the power of feeling good about yourself” and her positive energy jumps off the pages of her blog.
Tell me a bit about your blog
It all started as the result of an illness and an inability to work. I needed something to stay busy/ connected and nail polish became my outlet. I started by posting my manicure pictures on my personal FB page and the response from my friends was a positive one. The idea of starting a blog about my polished adventures came from my husband. He has been very supportive of the whole thing since day one. Anyhow, I did a ton of research as I had no idea what a blog even was…. I was captivated by the community and decided that I had to be a part of it. After three days I finally landed on a blog name, and so www.letthemhavepolish.com was born.
How often do you post?
I post EVERY.DAY. And I have been blogging since August of 2010. It’s a sickness lol. Actually the only time I do not post is when I am sick.
Are you left or right handed?
Right Handed
What’s your best tip for painting your other hand?
Keep a light hand and let the brush do all the work. Also be patient and practice a lot!
How often do you paint your nails?
EVERY.DAY… It is definitely a sickness haha.
How many polishes in your collection?
1,284… Precisely.
How do you store your polishes?
I have a total of six wall racks. Three of them hold 90 bottles, three hold 60. I get my racks from www.transdesign.com . I also have Two Ikea Helmers, just about, full of polish.
Which brand has the best brush?
I think I have to give it to O.P.I on this one. That Pro-Wide brush makes everything so easy!
Favourite polish brand?
I can’t ever really answer this question because every brand has their strenghths (and weaknesses). I love many brands for many different reasons. For example, Zoya always releases beautiful, cohesive seasonal collections. O.P.I always knows how to do red the right way. China Glaze is my go-to for bright colors and fun, playful Seasonal Collections and Puerto Rican brand Bettina has my heart when it comes to nail art. I could go on and on but you get the point. I could never choose a favorite brand.
Favourite indie brand?
There you go again with that word…. Hahaha I am a big fan of Cult Nails. I am happy to call Maria a friend and I love what she is doing with the brand. Also, have you seen their latest collection; Behind Closed Doors?! It is AMAZING.
Best luxe brand?
I have to give it to Illamasqua here. It should be pretty obvious why..; )
Best bargain buy?
I really like Wet ‘n’ Wild polishes (Actually all their products are pretty amazing!)
Favourite colour?
All the colors you can see on a peacock’s tail feather!
Favourite colour combinations?
For some reason I am really into Purple and Green lately…
Best colour for school?
I don’t go to school but if I did, I’d be in college… So I’d wear whatever I want! Hahah The louder, the better.
Best colour for work?
Butter London All Hail the Queen. Amazing shade of sandy nude with holographic shimmer? Yes, please!
Best party colour?
Anything Neon or Glitter. Or both combined!
What colour would / did you wear on your wedding day?
I don’t remember the name but I wore an old O.P.I vampy Red with some subtle Black and White wispy decorations. Back then I wasn’t into doing my own nails, they were done at a salon. Thankfully, I had grown out all the damage from acrylics and actually wore my own natural shorties on my wedding.
Best tip for making nail polish last longer?
Store it up-right. Keep the cap screwed on tight when ever you are not using it. Make sure it is away from direct Sunlight and in a cool place. Also, DO NOT PUT ACETONE IN IT. If the polish is getting thick, put a few drops of polish thinner in it. This can be found at Sally’s or Ulta.
What’s your favourite nail art trend?
Hhhmmm…. I am really into gradient nails, stripes, dots and the beautiful Gold Flakes that some companies have been coming out with.
